Galapagos Day 8 (3/28)

North Seymour and Baltra Island

Our last stop was also coincidentally the only morning we were up in time to see the sunrise (well, not coincidentally since we had to do an early morning excursion to fit it in before the flight out). The sunrise was spectacular, and the sun coming up as we landed on North Seymour turned the ocean waves into glass and lit the island up with a warm orange glow.

The big attraction was the nesting area for Frigate birds and Blue Footed Boobies, although a number of sea lions tried to steal some of the bird's thunder. It was the first time we'd seen the male Frigate bird with their scarlet throat sack inflated, which was quite a sight. Plus we had the opportunity to see the males in action trying to get a little action, so to speak.

And this was also the only time we had a chance to see the Blue Footed Boobie mating dance.

Then it was back on board for a short trip to Balta Island, who's main feature is the Balta airport.

And now you can take a look at the combined snorkeling photos and movies (recommended), or you can continue to the continuation our adventure with a week in Ecuador proper.
